Caught by several successive illnesses while sailing between Guyana and Barbados, a 19-year-old Martinican fisherman aboard the 'Marlin Star' needed to be medevaced in the night of Nov 20, 2022. The CROSS Antilles Guyane deployed the Dragon 972 helicopter from Martinique, which had to fly for more than four hours. The helicopter conditions were complicated by the rough seas, and the long intervention which required refueling in Barbados. Despite these hazards, the firefighters were able to rescue the young fisherman in time. He was hoisted and taken to the Martinique University Hospital.
