The California Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly crash on Highway 101 in south Monterey County on Saturday.Both southbound lanes of Highway 101 at Gloria Road were closed while CHP investigated. CHP said that the crash involved five vehicles and happened around 11:45 a.m.CHP said a 16-year-old male from Salinas was driving a 2021 Chevrolet 2500 that was hauling a trailer southbound on Highway 101. The Chevrolet 2500 hit a Chevrolet Colorado in front of them.The Colorado lost control and rolled over. The driver of the Colorado was declared dead on the scene, the passenger was taken to Natividad Medical Center for his injuries.The driver of the Colorado was identified as 49-year-old Omar Arriaga from Salinas, per the Monterey County Sheriff's Office. The crash then caused a chain reaction causing three more cars to crash."The driver and passenger of the white Honda Accord had no injuries. The driver of the white Chevrolet 2500 had no injuries. The driver and passenger of the maroon Toyota Sienna had no injuries," per a CHP media release.Alcohol is not a suspected factor in the crash, per CHP.The 16-year-old driver was licensed. Any pending charges are still under investigation, per CHP.The road was closed for several hours and reopened at 3:13 p.m.

The Colorado lost control and rolled over. The driver of the Colorado was declared dead on the scene, the passenger was taken to Natividad Medical Center for his injuries.
