Ethan Browne: How did Jackson Browne's son die?

Singer Jackson Browne on Wednesday announced the death of his son Ethan Browne, 52, in a statement on Facebook.

The 77-year-old singer-songwriter did not reveal the cause of Browne's death, requesting privacy and respect for the family.

The statement read, "It is with deep sorrow that we share that on the morning of November 25, 2025, Ethan Browne, the son of Jackson Browne and Phyllis Major, was found unresponsive in his home and has passed away. We ask for privacy and respect for the family during this difficult time. No further details are available at this moment."

Browne's mother, Major died by suicide at age 30 in March 1976, when Ethan was a toddler.

As soon as the news of his death surfaced online with no cause of death shared by the family, conspiracy theorists started linking it to Covid-19.

A user shared a screenshot of The New York Time's story about Jackson Browne testing positive for coronavirus in March 2020.

In the story titled "Jackson Browne on testing positive for COVID-19, his condition and passing it to his son", the singer said "I'm OK—I'm not bad at all" after learning this that he was tested positive.

He said his symptoms were on the wane and believed he's one of the majority of those who become infected who were predicted to have mild symptoms and make full recovery.

According to the NYT report, Browne used his diagnosis to emphasize a message that "Everybody has a role to play in the health of the country and of the world.

Though he made a responsible statement regarding his diagnosis, years later some fans are using his remarks to blame Ethan's death on COVID-19, something that seems too far fetched.

Commenting on the story, one user speculated, "In previous years, hordes of premature mystery deaths have usually indicated a very bad wave is approaching."
