欧博官网Chapter 1: What's in a vault. Secrets of

"Three hundred and forty five individuals with total amnesia anticipated. Two hundred eleven dead. All removed from their stasis caskets. One of which appears to be a Magos." Gertrude announced while looking down at the deceased Magos. The ship's five most important Mechanicus personnel were all staring intently down at the corpse along with Cleon who was feeling very out of place tucked away in a corner.

"These cybernetics are all of superb quality, quite the diverse assortment." Mech-Lord ZephyrXIII spoke with a tinny voice.

"Indeed only his brain had yet to be replaced. Though it's clear when you look closely that they come from a multitude of different manufacturers. Unfortunately his brain is utterly destroyed and unsuitable for internment. Rest assured none of his gifts shall go to waste and we shall ensure each is cleansed with utmost care." Gertrude stated before turning towards Altair expectantly. "There are no signs of corruption or faults with the cybernetics themselves."

"We have just finished unlocking the void coffer containing the unknown Magos's personal effects thanks to help from Magos Doll, Gertrude and myself. It took longer than expected even with his bio signature. However, it is now ready to be opened." Spoke the ship's Omnissianic Congregator Magos Altair.

Gertrude informed the group "We wanted you all here for the examination of the items within." Gesturing to the large thousand kilogram vault that had been moved into this private and secure Mechanicus space. "We were also able to glean additional information on the timeline of our mystery crew. Technomancer Cleon?"

Cleon stiffened slightly when he was suddenly addressed but replied promptly "According to all ship records the area was and had been sealed prior to being wrested from a space hulk by the Drakios family several millennia ago. These pods had unique power conduits tied not only to the main generator but two backup systems in the ship. In addition they possess their own internal systems run on ancient fuel rods. I have confirmed with one of our Excavators that the pods are indeed an additional form of Archeotech present in the vessel."

"So they are old." growled the ship's Drivemaster, Exploritor TH-102, tapping a metal digit on the edge of the exam table "How is this pertinent?"

"It wasn't the pod that failed to keep him alive… It was his cybernetics. He had a Volitor Implant hidden inside amongst all the other cybernetics and bionics" Gertrude lamented shaking her head. "The fragments of data we managed to pull out of it suggests he had five thousand years to complete whatever mission he was on before the failsafes triggered and it wasn't enough. This means they are at least five millennia old at a minimum. His body, while possessing a multitude of bionics and implants, had several empty ports with no equipped dendrites."

She continued "All the individuals we have thawed thus far have full cryo-stasis induced amnesia. It's clear the Gamma pods were meant for voidsmen, the Beta pods were personal guard of some type based on the contents of their personal effects lockers. The Alpha pods were for high ranking or people of importance. Our scans have informed us that within two of the Alpha pods are what appear to be a Navigator and an Astropath respectively. Along with one adult human male, one adult human female, and one female human child. Of which scans indicate the child has some manner of implants. We were unable to get a detailed scan of them while the pod is active and I will need to examine her again after her awakening." Gertrude stated.

All five of the magi turned to look at Magos Doll who stared back at them with glowing biotic eyes. "I will contact the captain. Navigator Primaris Nostromo, and Choir Master Supine to determine what is to be done with them. In the meantime Cleon should prepare to thaw the rest of Alpha pods other than the Navigator and Astropath but wait for word from the captain. Start cataloging the names and personal effects of Beta and continue with Gamma last. We are missing over a thousand crew after our previous transit incident, mostly general laborers but additional hands are always welcome."

Doll considered the pods for a moment "I think we shall suggest sending the Beta individuals to the barracks. Keep the Alpha individuals together. I want in depth scans of all five and once they are cleared by Gertrude you can have them open their personal vaults. Check all their items thoroughly before returning them we can go over contraband on a case by case basis. Any unusual discoveries or abnormalities are to be reported. We shall all reconvene with the command staff to explain this in a day."

He turned towards the vault and Grtrude was about to speak up when he continued "Catalog and salvage any technology you can from the dead, it must all be cleansed and sanctified properly but we will not waste, those who are not salvageable may yet be suitable as servitors. We shall inform the captain at the staff meeting tomorrow. We also need to ensure none of our priests or servitors were corrupted when the Gellar Field flickered. But for now let us see what lies within."

They all approached as Doll entered the command to open the Void Coffer. A crease appeared in the middle and the front suddenly slid open to reveal a plethora of items within.

The stunned absolute silence from everyone in the room was a testament to the surprise and awe they felt when they regarded the treasure trove of technology within.

On the far left side of the vault sat a pair of large pristine Arms Coffers, it was far larger than the ones they'd found with the Beta pod individuals. This new version possessed its own mechanical lock designed to be opened using a mechadendrite. Each coffer was large enough to contain a trio of heavy weapons or a multitude of other smaller weapons. The most obvious item was an ornate suit of armor that hung on an armor rack, flanked by dozens of gleaming mechadendrites and a luscious red robe bearing the mechanicus skull and cog hanging from a hook. Several items secured in alcoves around the armor and on the vault doors.

Doll hissed as he spotted an item ornately displayed in the center of the vault. Reverently he reached in and withdrew a rod. "This… is an Omnissian Rod" he whispered reverently. He carefully set it on the table letting everyone admire the wondrous item. "As well as an Omnissian Axe carried by many Magos."

"The armor is Dragon Scale power armor." Doll gestured to the armor and the stand, carefully hefting it to place it on the examination table. "Along with an Archeotech Mirror Shield."

"A Servo Arm, Servo Claw, and Servo Harness. Ballistic, Exploration, Optical, Manipulator, Medical and Utility Mechadendrites of pristine make. Along with a Mechatendril and three spooled Dendrite Blades." Doll said as he continued to look around.

Doll hefted the weapons case and placed it on the end of the table and gave the other magi permission to open it while he carefully continued sorting through the other gear.

The case opened up easily enough inside was a plethora of glittering weapons lined up within the case and Altair spoke aloud.

"A Mars pattern Storm Bolter with fire selector, extended magazine, a mag lock and a targeter."

"A phased Plasma Rifle also with a targeter."

"An Archeotech Assault Gauntlet with eight stacks of ammo for the gauntlet. None for the Bolter."

"Eight Grenades. Three haywire, a Kinetic, two micro frag and two micro krak grenades. A Spoor Targeter currently unattached."

"The second coffer has only three weapons. These larger weapons are a Mars pattern Thermal Lance, a Rad-Cleanser and an ancient Conversion Beamer of some sort."

"What a concerning amount of ordinance." Zephyr commented in awe.

Doll spoke up. "I have found a selection of Sacred Oils, An Advanced Medkit with a Diagnostor and a Narthecium, Core-gel, a Bypass Spike, and what appears to closely match a Locke-Pattern Extended Range Auspex of high quality. Along with one last smaller case that is obstructing my scans."

Doll was staring down at the case with his Auspex scanner which was continuously rebuffed. When he finally got the small box to accept an override code and cracked it open. He suddenly froze. "LOCK. DOWN. THE ROOM." he demanded in binary.

All the Magi immediately did so, locking the single entrance and scanning the area. Doll placed the slightly cracked open case in the center of the room and carefully lifted the cover off. It slid off silently, revealing a thin golden wafer resting within along with a small cube and a data slate.

All of them stared at the object with relevant expressions. Muttering prayers to the machine god.

"An STC wafer. A data-slate and some other data repository I do not recognize." Doll intoned. He didn't even touch it directly, craning his head closer, looking down, and studying it carefully with every sensory device he had available. He let out a curious sound, settled himself down once he had examined the device more thoroughly. "This fragment appears to contain the manufacturing specifications for various types of Bolt ammunition."

Doll picked up the data slate and plugged a cable into it before he frowned "Encrypted. It will take me some time to unlock the data within. Unfortunately it looks like the device was purged of a majority of its data before transit."

Doll seemed to consider his options. Calculating the path with the best possible outcomes swiftly. "Given the current situation, travel to mars or the Lathes is untenable. Keeping this STC constrained is infeasible and inefficient. We shall inform the captain. I believe our manufactorum can utilize the data and methods within this wafer. The captain and his dynasty has been a steadfast ally of the Mechanicum for generations. While we can secure a portion of this find for ourselves and any Mechanicum artifacts, as the Captain and Rogue Trader of this vessel he must be made aware of the situation. We should deliver the fragment and rod to a Forge world as soon as we are able but we shall safeguard them for now. The arms should be taken to the armory along with the armor."

"Technomancer Cleon" Doll turned his glowing eyes on the man who was trembling slightly and trying to stay out of the way. "As the individual responsible for the initial discovery. Rewards are due."

"I was simply doing my duty sir" Cleon spoke bowing deeply "I am honored that I have assisted our order with the recovery of these blessed artifacts."

Doll hummed "A promotion. To Technomancer-at-Arms. Also you may select one of the salvageable implants from our fallen comrade."

Cleon stood there stunned for a long time. "I thank you Fabricator." spoke hoarsely holding his bow.

"Is that enough?" Doll asked the others who considered it.

"Perhaps Two, an Implant or Biotic and a dendrite?" TH-102 offers. "Cleon currently lacks dendrites of his own."

Gertrude spoke "I believe that is fair. Cleon's promotion shall allow him to be put in charge of managing the pods and individuals within. While we will provide oversight as needed."

Doll closed the case back over the STC fragment and put it back in the vault with the Rod. The rest of the items would be moved to the armory or where they would be most secure.

"Agreed. Do not disappoint us Technomancer-at-Arms Cleon. You are of course not to speak of the fragment. Which Dendrite interests you?"

"I hear and obey." Cleon intoned, still bowed "The Medical Dendrite Sir"

"Good, Gertrude will provide you with a list of the available implants to make your selection once she is ready." Passing the coiled dendrite over to Cleon.

"Now there is much work to be done. We must attend the officers meeting. Come." Doll commanded.

—--------------------------------------------------------------

The command staff all gathered together to brief the captain in their operations center.

"Alright it's been three days. Report in."

"Sir, we lost around a thousand crew from the lance strike."

While that wasn't much considering the one hundred forty thousand average crew for a ship this size. The crew of the Argent Drake were all veterans and had been heavily invested in. Each and every loss stung a little.

"We got off comparatively lightly. The Lady is down to half her crew complement. Her gunnery decks lost ninety percent of their crew. She's under strength and a lot of the dead were corrupted and unsuitable for reclamation. The Hammer lost several thousand servitors and only a handful of crew. They're still operational, just expect decreased efficiency until both are done undergoing repairs and crew is replaced. We lost the Foul and Burden utterly. No signs of life boats or any survivors."

The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.

Lord Arken chewed over that information, tapping the table in front of him. "This is our biggest loss in some time from warp complications. Navigator Nostromo?"

The petite young looking woman sat up and slowly stood. She looked haggard, which was to be expected, however she was alert and coherent.

"The massive warp storms continue unabated, the astronomicon is entirely obscured. I am not sure if you have gone to the observation deck but." She shook her head ruefully. "Anyway. We seem to have drifted into a small harbor of stability but just behind us is a raging torrent of warp energy, like a flooding river. I have never seen or even heard of a storm like this before. Its breadth and scope are beyond words. However, if any other vessels in this local region of space survived the initial impact and did manage to escape I would not be surprised if they got spat out here. I do not know why this region of space is calmer than the rest but I can only assume it's due to either the other large warp storm to the north east or some artifact in one of the nearby systems. Until the storms abate somewhat, Warp travel is entirely beyond us."

"Alright. Where are we?" He asked, closing his eyes and taking a deep breath.

"I cannot be sure given all my normal navigational marks are obscured, but I believe we are in the Antimar Subsector of the Scarus Sector. We ARE back in Segmentum Obscurus but far to the north side. The only reference information I have on hand is a six hundred year old copy of a copy of a paper map to go off of. So you're going to have to take my best guess here."

"The best planet for our needs should be Ur-Haven, the production planet for the Isolde Pattern Bulk Clipper, so they should be able to host us for our larger repairs. Though it will take us a month or so to get there."

"Thank you. Does anyone have any good news?" He looked around.

"We have detected a few nearby systems that we think match Lady Nostromo's descriptor of the Scarus Sector. We've detected a small unmarked system nearby with several gas Giants that would be ideal for sending the Hammer and Lady to extract plasma from. We are still waiting for the returns on the deep scans to be certain."

Lord Drakos considered their options "We will help with repairs for a week. Redistribute crew as needed. Then we will send the Hammer and Lady to gather plasma and move further in. I'd like to monitor this egress for a few days and top up on fuel before we embark towards Ur-Haven."

"Yes sir!"

"Anything else I need to know?"

One of the officers standing near the mechanicus contingent stood. "We were surveying the Damaged section of the cryo quarters and discovered something unusual sir. There was a hidden compartment that was exposed. Inside were several advanced Cryo Stasis Pods. They're full. However, a portion of the individuals inside are deceased. They seem to be quite old. We opened one of the pods and the crewman, while physically stable, suffered long term stasis induced full amnesia. We opened several more in order to confirm this and all of them were the same."

"Well that's nothing we haven't run into before. A lack of memories can be fixed with retraining. If they are fit to serve as replacement crew go ahead and thaw them all. How many were there?" The captain said.

"Well sir. There is another matter. We have identified three tiers of pods. Within we think are voidsmen, soldiers and then VIPs. We shall allow Chief Chirurgeon Gertrude and Enginseer Prime Doll to explain as they took over the operation." He bowed and sat down as the room turned their attention to the group of Mechanicus individuals.

"As stated we discovered five hundred pods of what we are calling Gamma type. Fifty of Beta type and Six Alpha type. Three hundred survivors in Gamma, Forty for Beta and five for Alpha. All living individuals appear fully healthy if disoriented from long term stasis. With two hundred eleven dead. One of which was in the Alpha pods. Within the Alpha pods are two individuals that appear to be a navigator and an astropath. Given the danger we have not awoken them as we expect them to also be suffering from stasis induced amnesia."

Lord Drakios leaned forward interested, a spare navigator and astropath was sorely needed at the moment. "Any chance the amnesia will eventually go away?"

"Negative. This is a known phenomena for long term cold storage. The extreme duration caused by portions of the brain deteriorating then being regenerated by the archeotech pods. Their memories are gone but the majority retain a lot of subconscious knowledge and innate habits. They can speak and act, they just have no conscious knowledge to draw on. Most don't know their own names until they are told."

"Then we move on to the Alpha pods with the six VIPs according to our initial scans all six are humans, the aforementioned individual with a Navigator mutation is an adult male, the astropath an adult female, a female and male adult with no mutations and minor aguments, a young female age unknown, roughly young teen or preteen with augments, and the deceased individual a heavily augmented male Magos."

"There are children? We'll need to foster them amongst the crew" The Captain said before Gertrude coughed.

"There is exactly one child, the one in pod Alpha. No other children were found in any of the pods." She said as her gaze slid over to Doll.

"That seems a little unusual." When she didn't elaborate he arched an eyebrow questioningly. "I assume since all of you all showed up that there's something important about this deceased Magos or the child?"

Doll stepped forward taking over "Indeed. The Magos in question did not die because his pod failed. He was killed by a Volitor Implant. We conducted a thorough autopsy in order to confirm this. The Magos in question has a great many high quality cybernetics. In addition when the pod was opened a large Void Coffer was deposited next to the pod. He had additional augmetics and gear that would not fit inside the pod. We managed to unlock the Coffer with some effort. If it were not for our current situation making it untenable I would be demanding we make for The Lathes or Mars at top speed. Our situation is precarious as it stands, thus we have elected to fully explain our position and the weight of the items we have recovered."

Lord Drakios had worked with Doll for hundreds of years and looked stunned by that proclamation. His dynasty had a fantastic relationship with the mechanicus, one of the reasons they could maintain all the archeotech on the vessel and serve as valuable trade partners. Doll had never made a demand like that in his entire tenure aboard. His expression shifted from surprise to extreme focused interest.

"What did you find Doll?" He asked. The room was quiet as Doll stood there stoically.

"The Magos in question died because the time limit imposed by his implant was exceeded. According to the implant the timeline was five thousand years. Making them at least five millennia old. He was in possession of an Omnissian Rod, several other rare pieces of archeotech and rare equipment. Most importantly inside his coffer was a physical STC fragment."

Everyone in the room sucked in a sharp breath.

"I assume you checked the fragment?" The Captain asked knowing that this suddenly had become a bigger deal than he anticipated.

"The fragment contains the manufacturing details for producing all manner of Bolt Ammunition. All current known types and one type previously thought lost. Along with various ammunition carriers."

"Is our manufactorum compatible with it?" The captain steepled his fingers as he let his elbows rest on the conference table.

Doll slowly nodded "Yes. We could produce several of the types onboard if we chose to dedicate a portion of the production capacity to do so. Some are beyond us, requiring specific materials that we cannot procure at this time."

"Sir. Out of curiosity what's the new type called?" One of the officers asked from across the room.

"Our logs refer to them as Retribution Shells." Doll informed the curious officer. "We can produce them along with, Normal Shells, Metal Storm, Kraken, and Hellfire or Dragonfire rounds. We have the schematics for normal, heavy, Astartes, Vehicle and even Titan sized shells. The STC wafer only includes the ammunition. The portion containing the Bolter patterns was not recoverable. Our best estimates indicate the infantry weapon inside was likely a variant close to that of the Phobos Pattern Bolter."

Lord Drakios knew what a boon this was, he allowed himself to smile. "Doll, please make a copy at your earliest convenience to be kept in the manufactorum and have production started. We will of course turn the wafer over to the Mechanicus when we can, however I would like to utilize the gift of data to help ensure the safe delivery of the relic. I trust you to handle it as you best see fit."

He looked around the room, his gaze turning sharp "All of you are to keep this quiet! Not a word! Do you understand!"

"YES SIR!" the officers chorused.

Doll bowed his head pleased with the captain's foresight "There is one last matter. The Void Coffer which contained these things was one of six. Each Alpha pod has their own coffer. The Beta pods each had a case containing military grade gear. Gamma pods had work suits and a few tools in a small storage locker. These lockers are how we learned their names."

"I see, keep me apprised. Especially if you find anything drastically important but I will leave the matters of the Mechanicus to you and the Magi."

"We appreciate your understanding Captain."

"Alright. You have my permission to go ahead and thaw them all. We will take the navigator and astropath respectively. Full safety precautions. Get them all through basic weapons training and ship familiarization."

The captain hesitated "With regards to the child…"

Doll raised a finger and spoke up "We believe that she may fall under the purview of the Mechanicus due to the number of implants she appears to have and will keep you informed on any developments, Lord Drakios."

He was content to hand off that issue and was about to move on when the overhead vox speaker chimed.

"Captain to the bridge!"

Lord Drakios scowled. "Alright, everyone back to work. Keep up the good work. We will reconvene at the end of the week once repairs are finished."
