Authorities have launched an investigation into the deadly plane crash that killed renowned Colombian singer Yeison Jiménez and five others in central-eastern Colombia on Saturday, the Associated Press reported.
"We regret this incident and are already initiating the pertinent investigations," Fernanda Rojas, Transport Minister of Colombia, wrote in a post on X on Saturday.
The aircraft, registered as N325FA, went down in the Paipa and Duitama area of the Boyacá department, en route to Medellín, resulting in the deaths of all on board, including Jiménez, his photographer Weisman Mora, and the plane’s crew and passengers.
The ContextThe sudden passing of 34-year-old Jiménez, a major figure in the Latin music world, brought shock and mourning across Colombia and the broader Spanish-speaking community.
Jiménez was regarded for his unique blend of Mexican ranchera and Colombian folk influences, and his music reached audiences worldwide.
The tragedy occurred just hours before he was scheduled to perform near Medellín.
The Boyacá governor’s office formally declared mourning in the region in the aftermath, and social media has been flooded with tributes and condolences from fans and other artists, underlining his broad impact on music and culture.

What To KnowThe Civil Aviation Authority said the aircraft departed from Paipa Airport bound for Medellín and crashed shortly after takeoff, the AP reported.
All six people aboard were killed including Jiménez, Mora, pilot Captain Hernando Torres, co-pilot Juan Manuel Rodríguez, and passengers Óscar Marín and Jefferson Osorio.
Footage circulated by Colombian media showed the plane during takeoff with onlookers heard shouting, "the runway is over," followed by images of the wreckage in flames. Authorities have not released further details on the circumstances of the crash.
Leading up to the accident, Jiménez revealed in a televised interview that he had several vivid dreams predicting his own death in a plane crash.
"I dreamt three times that we were going to have a plane crash... in one of the dreams, I did dreamt that we had died and that we were on the news," he said in an interview with Caracol TV.
During that same interview, the singer also mentioned a previous emergency landing involving the same plane, describing technical issues experienced during takeoff.
Jiménez leaves behind a wife and three children.

Fernanda Rojas, Transport Minister of Colombia, said in a post on X Saturday: “At this precise moment, the aeronautical and police authorities are verifying the identity of the occupants who died in the crash of a small plane in the vicinity of Paipa. In a few minutes, we will confirm officially. We regret this incident and are already initiating the pertinent investigations."
What Happens NextInvestigators from Colombia’s Civil Aviation Authority and the Technical Directorate for Accident Investigation are expected to continue their inquiries and release findings as evidence is analyzed.
