The University of Minnesota is excited to welcome over 12,000 new students, as well as tens of thousands of returning students across the state for the 2025-2026 academic year.
Incoming students are arriving from more than 60 countries, 49 U.S. states and Washington D.C. While this class of University of Minnesota students brings diverse, global experiences to our campuses, about 70% of new students hail from Minnesota.
“As the University of Minnesota embarks on its 174th year, we are energized by our land-grant mission of distinguished education, groundbreaking research and service to our communities,” said President Rebecca Cunningham. “I am so proud to welcome new and returning students to our statewide university community, where together we will write the next chapter with a bold vision that builds prosperity and improves the lives of Minnesotans, the nation and the world.”
Fall classes began on August 20 on the Morris campus, today on the Duluth campus, tomorrow on the Crookston campus, and next week on the Rochester and Twin Cities campuses.
Preliminary data show collective growth in enrollment across the University’s five campuses, including a nearly 20% increase on the Morris campus.
Thanks to long-standing investments in student financial aid, the University of Minnesota provides a world-class education at the lowest actual cost of any four-year college in Minnesota for students from lower- and middle-income households.
As one of America’s leading and most comprehensive research universities, the University of Minnesota’s innovative degree programs are training the next generation of leaders who will contribute to the vitality of our people, communities and resources throughout Minnesota and beyond.
