Best Pizza in Austin
Open for: Lunch, dinner
Price: $
This North Austin slice shop and takeout joint fires up amazing pies and slices in all different styles. East Coast pizza fans will revel in its New Jersey-style tomato pie, a simple thin, crispy crust topped with tomato sauce with a whisper of sweetness, and Parmesan, if you please. There’s also New York-style slices, square Sicilian, a saucy “American” pizza with lots of cheese, and Grandma-style pies. Cooked in sheet pans, these crispy, olive oil-laden pizzas originated in Long Island and are named after the nonnas who cooked them. Don’t miss out on the stromboli and calzones. Though it markets itself as a slice shop, there’s limited seating inside and a patio with picnic tables outside — perfect for a pizza spread.
Best for: Pizza enthusiasts who want to try several different styles in one sitting.

Sister to Bufalina, this East Austin restaurant slings expertly executed Neapolitan pies that have earned raves from critics and diners alike. Small’s Pizza
Link
Open for: Lunch, dinner
Price: $$
This New Haven-style pizzeria launched as a pop-up in 2021 before transitioning into its counter-service digs in Far East Austin. Still, it sticks to its Connecticut roots, serving its signature whole pies, which are asymmetrically sliced, deeply charred, and absolutely irresistible. Choose between classic toppings like pepperoni or anchovies, or a very New Haven choice like sausage and peppers. Looking for something different? Try Small’s Pizza of the Week concoctions (the garlic mashed potato is especially unique). You can’t go wrong.
Fun fact: This style of pizza is called “apizza” (pronounced “ah-beets”) in Connecticut.

Conans Pizza South
Link
Open for: Lunch, dinner
Price: $$
For deep-pan pizza, Conans is the Austin answer. There are optional wheat crusts and plenty of vegan options, too. Build your own — be it deep or thin crust, or go for a house model. The Don’t Choke Art (fresh spinach, sliced tomatoes, artichoke hearts, and minced garlic) and Pesto (sliced tomatoes on pesto sauce) are winners. Inside and out, this place has the nostalgic pizza joint vibes of an old-school Pizza Hut, but it’s overflowing with tchotchkes and wall art. A second location up north, in Wooten, has the same corny but great vibes. Pickup orders can be placed online.
Pro-tip: We love the deep-pan pies, but don’t overlook the thin crust. It’s pretty good.

Take these personal-sized pies into the brewery or dine out on the patio. Don’t forget the beer. Order online from the South Congress location or the truck at Meanwhile.
If you drive: Don’t drive. Take an Uber, so you can enjoy as much of the excellent beer at Meanwhile as you like.
