I would like to understand the nuances behind the use of the word "nigga" in various situations.
I am Japanese and have never lived in Western countries, and I'm asking these questions purely out of cultural curiosity. I am interested in learning about the realistic feelings and widely accepted conventions in contemporary Western life, rather than purely historical or politically correct perspectives.
How explicit is the use of the n-word within the Black community? Is it as casually accepted as saying "oh shit" or "what the fuck"? Would it be considered appropriate in business situations, like when speaking to your boss (casually) or playing golf with a business partner?
Is there any risk for a Black person with a relatively lighter skin tone when using the n-word? I have seen a TV show depicting lighter-skinned Black students being bullied within Black student communities in high school. Is it common for using the n-word in such situations to contribute to bullying or social tension?
Is it generally considered inappropriate for non-Black individuals to rap lyrics containing the n-word in karaoke or public performances? Are there any notable examples of public performances by well-known artists where this has occurred?
Do Western internet communities have a permissive atmosphere where it's considered acceptable to laugh at memes related to the n-word? For example, in 2021, there was a meme related to the n-word called 'Let's Go Meme,' also known as the 'Is This a Racist Cartoon?' meme. The comments on the video suggested that both Black and non-Black people found it funny, but I'm unsure how widely acceptable this type of humor is.
In real life, are there any exceptions that might allow non-Black people to use the n-word? For instance, if a non-Black person has had a long-standing friendship with a Black person, might the Black friend allow the non-Black person to use the word, as in saying, "Hey nigga, what's up?"
