Symptoms  

Can't scan a document to your computer

 
Cause  

The software or driver is not installed

Connection lost between the computer and the machine

 
Resolution  

1. Check the machine's display or LEDs for an error message and clear it.

2. Turn off the Brother machine, wait about 15 seconds, and then turn it back on again.

3. Disconnect and then reconnect the USB cable to your computer and machine. Remove any docking stations, USB hubs, or extension cables.

Note

We recommend using a type A/B 1.1 or later USB cable no longer than 6 feet. Other cable configurations may work, but communication loss may occur.

4. Double-click on

iPrint&Scan

(Brother iPrint&Scan).

Note

If you haven't already installed Brother iPrint&Scan, download and install it from https://support.brother.com.

5. In iPrint&Scan, click Select your Machine and choose it from the list.

- If your machine is found, .

- If your machine is not found, make sure it is turned on and the USB cable is securely connected between the Brother machine and the computer. 

6. Attempt to scan a document.

How to scan with iPrint&Scan

a. Click Scan.

b. Configure the desired scan settings. Click All Settings for additional settings.

c. Click Scan.

d. Once the scan is complete, the results will appear.


- If the document scans, then the scanner is working correctly, and the issue is resolved.

- If the document doesn't scan, .

7. Uninstall the Brother software if already installed.

8. Install the Full Driver and Software Package downloaded from https://support.brother.com.

9. Once the installation completes, attempt to scan a document again. 

- If the document scans, then the scanner is working correctly, and the issue is resolved.

- If the document still doesn't scan, try the following possible resolutions:

- Unplug and then re-plug the USB cable on both ends. Try a different port on the computer, if available.

- Try a different USB cable. 

- If you have another computer, try installing your machine on that computer and scanning. This will determine if there is a problem with this computer.
