Players begin by talking to Pierre, the tutorial NPC who provides the player with basic knowledge on how play the game.

The game follows a basic path of progression, in which the player is encouraged to catch Fish and sell them to Merchants for C$ — the game's main currency — in order to buy better equipment for catching better Fish. A secondary goal of Fisch is to complete the Bestiary, which is a logbook of all types of Fish that the player has discovered.

There are many locations where fishing can be done, which are all separated by a large Ocean. Each location has a large array of unique fish that can be caught. The player is initially isolated to the game's starting area, Moosewood, until they can manage the funds to purchase a Boat to travel elsewhere. The time system of Fisch is akin to real life, where a day passes in roughly 25–30 minutes. Each day or night brings about new weather events which can influence the catch rates of some fish.

Development

Nate's inspiration for creating Fisch came after noticing the lack of engagement and creativity from existing fishing experiences on Roblox. Development of the game took around 4 months, of which Nate handled all scripting, modeling, and building for the game himself. The game was announced on September 29, 2024, with a playable release made on October 5, 2024. Since then, the game has had a total of 53 versions.

Fisch takes inspiration from a myriad of games, but mostly Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing for its calm and simplistic gameplay. The name "Fisch" derives from the German word for "Fish", which was likely not intentional on Nate's part. The name is also in reference to Jenna Fischer, the actress who plays the role of "Pam Beesly" from The Office TV series.

On November 2, 2024, Fisch was acquired by DoBig Studios, a game development group with known works on titles such as 'Blade Ball' and 'dusty trip'. Nate's reasoning was that, while acknowledging the game's future, he feared its development and maintenance as a solo project would have greatly affected his life as a college student.

On July 7, 2025, Do Big Studios withdrew from the development of Fisch, transferring responsibility to the original developers. Subsequently, Nate acquired ownership of the Fisching group/community on August 21, 2025, reassuming his managerial oversight of the game alongside Nick (@animepunk).

Reception

Fisch is generally received well by most players. As of October 2025, the game has totaled more than 3.4 billion visits, with an 89% positive rating. They have also collaborated with several other companies for events or merchandise, for instance LEGO and Lootbloc.

On November 4, 2024, Fisch was curated on Today's Picks and promoted on Roblox's official X account on the same day. On November 30, 2024, Fisch was the top experience in CCUs (concurrent users), beating Blox Fruits by over 100,000 active users
