LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Millions are expected to participate in "No Kings" protests across the U.S. tomorrow, as organizers aim to convey a message that America will not be governed by fear or force. The movement has drawn criticism from Republicans, who label it a "hate America rally." In Southern Nevada, five protests are scheduled, including in Henderson, Pahrump, Mesquite, and two in Las Vegas. The Las Vegas protests will occur at the federal courthouse downtown in the morning and in front of New York-New York on the Strip in the afternoon.

Deputy Chief Jose Hernandez of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department stated, "Part of the planning is to have additional officers within the tourist corridor." The department is preparing for a large turnout, with support from North Las Vegas, Henderson, and Nevada State Police.

Michael Green, chairman of the UNLV Department of History, noted the significance of the afternoon protest's location at New York-New York, referencing the replica of the Statue of Liberty and its inscription, "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free." Green suggested that protesters might resonate with this message amid recent immigration enforcement actions.

Laura Martin, executive director of PLAN Action, criticized ICE's actions, saying, "Even though ICE says they are arresting the worst of the worst, we have seen them arrest and assault U.S. citizens across the country." She emphasized the necessity of the protests in response to the Trump administration.

Republican political consultant Matt Klink argued that the protests could harm Democrats if they turn violent, but acknowledged, "If they are peaceful, I think that it opens up a possibility that at least the left can start to engage in a dialogue about America's future."

Despite differing opinions, Las Vegas Metro Police are prepared for the events. Deputy Chief Hernandez assured, "We are ready. We are ready to do this. Again, no strangers to large events and managing large events. So we are certainly ready. We feel ready for what is coming. And so all the resources are in place."
