I have been a loyal Bank of America credit card holder for over a decade, maintaining an impeccable payment history and a credit score of 819. Recently, I had to take an emergency flight to Arizona to be with my father. During the flight, I purchased an $11.42 breakfast, believing it had been charged to my Chase card on file. After returning home, I promptly paid my Chase balance in full, not realizing that the in-flight purchase had actually been charged to my Bank of America card.

Several weeks later, I was shocked to receive notice of a 30-day late payment on my credit report. Upon realizing the mistake, I immediately paid the $11.42 balance. I contacted Bank of America’s customer service to explain the situation and request a one-time courtesy removal of the negative mark, given my flawless payment history and the small amount involved. Unfortunately, my request was denied without consideration for my account history or the circumstances.

This $11.42 oversight cost me over 80 points on my credit score, which in turn disqualified me from securing an owner-builder construction loan. As a result, my plans to build on my property have been delayed at least a year. I make $280,000 annually and have never missed a payment on any account, yet Bank of America’s unwillingness to extend a courtesy adjustment in this unique situation is deeply disappointing.

While I am reluctant to cancel the card immediately—given the potential further impact on my credit score—once my home project is complete, I will be closing my account and will not do business with Bank of America again. My local credit union was astonished that no accommodation was made given my history.

In short: Bank of America has lost a loyal customer over $11.42.
